Karl Johaentges
After working for several years as an architect in his native Germany, Karl set off in1981 on a three-year world trip. He worked in architects’ offices in Japan, India, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, and developed a passion for travel photography.
Back in Germany in 1985, he founded his own company, KaJo, to publish the visual travelogue Pictures of a World Trip. Together with his Australian partner Jackie Blackwood, Karl photographed and published a popular book series with total sales of over a quarter of a million copies. Two of these titles, Lisbon—Hong Kong by Rail and Pictures from Ireland received the prestigious KODAK Photographic Book Award. His articles and photos have been printed in internationally renowned magazines and displayed in several exhibitions.
Karl Johaentges’ work covers photo-journalism, travel and architectural photography, and he holds regular photography workshops. He is a founding member of the German photo agency LOOK and an active member of the German photographers’ association FREELENS.

Jackie Blackwood
Jackie is a writer and has produced numerous book projects with her husband Karl Johaentges. As a Scottish-born Australian, she has always had a fascination for foreign countries. Karl and Jackie live in Hanover and spend several months each year in their second home of New Zealand.
